En país de mi amor／愛の国

I was very scared to be here.

ここに来るまで、かなりビビッていた。（写真は乗り継ぎ先のPanama）

Above from the sky, the land seemed very different from any other countries that I saw.

空から見ても、なんだか尋常じゃない雰囲気がただよってる。

Cuba.

キューバだ。

Since I was really scared, I hardly remember the first 1 hr there.

かなりビビッていたので、初めの１時間は記憶喪失。

But I remember having the feeling, people here were sweet.

でも何となく人々の感触が良い気がしていたのは覚えてる。

Then, after an hour, I realized, EVERY people I met were overwhelmingly sweet.

そして１時間後には人々がすごく可愛らしい、と痛感していた。

 The blackouts happened every 30 minutes, but it didn't bother me at all.

30分毎に起こる停電は、別にどうってこと無くむしろ心地よかった。

 

 Streets were old and some dirty, but I thought it was charming.

町は確かに古いくて時に汚いのだけど、それも魅力的だと思った。

 The smiles and the kindness of people there soothed me.

人々の笑顔と優しさにどんどん溶け込んで行く感覚。

 The musica cubana playing everywhere got me excited.

あちこちで流れるキューバ音楽がたまらない。

¡Que bonito!

なんて素敵な国なんだろう。

I immediately fell in love with this adorable country.

瞬く間にこの国に恋に堕ちた。

God, I am jealous of "me in the past" being there...

「そこにいた過去の私」に嫉妬さえ覚える。

 I feel emotional a bit, recalling the memory.

思い出すだけで感情的になる。

Cuba.

キューバ。

Puerto Rico International Film Festival@ Esperanza, Vieques

Do you know where Vieques is? Well, I didn't know.

ビエケス島って知ってますか？私は知りませんでした。

It is a small island, about 1.5hrs away from Fajardo 

(Which is about an hour drive from San Juan, Puerto Rico) by Ferry.

ファハルドという街（サンファン市から車で１時間くらい離れた小さな街）から
フェリーで約1時間半揺られて行く小さな島、ビエケス島。

Anyways, on my way to Puerto Rico, a girl sitting next to me gave me
 all the rumors about how American's can't get into Cuba. Got a little scared.

でもそんな事よりも、東京からプエルトリコ行きの飛行機の中でとなりに座った女の子が
アメリカ人はキューバに立入り禁止だとひたすら話していたので、
キューバの事でハラハラしておりました。

Then there I was in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

San Juan was like America, although everyone speaks Spanish here.

まずはサンファンに到着。景色がアメリカなのに皆がスペイン語を話す街。

Then moved to Vieques, through Fajardo.

そして今度はファハルドという波止場経由でビエケス島へ。

Vieques was an small island with bioluminescent bay, beautiful sky,

 and loud music in the neighborhood.

ビエケス島には夜光虫がいたり、空が綺麗で夜中に
どでかい音で音楽が流れる小さな島でした。

Oh yeah, everything was very very expensive there also.

ああ、そして物価がやたら高い。

But just to dwell into the beautiful nature was quite an experience.

でも美しい自然に囲まれる経験は、なかなかのもの。

But I felt weird about the separation of the visitors and the residences, 

しかし私はよそ者と先住民（？）の溝がどうも気になってしまい。

but I guess every resort is like that I guess.

リゾート地というものはそもそもがそういうモノだったかもしれない。

I thought about Okinawa a bit.

そして沖縄の事を少し思い出した。

I hope Naichi-people（The ones living in the main island of Japan) is not spoiling/disturbing the Uchinanchu (Okinawa people).

ウチナンチュをナイチの人々がぐちゃぐちゃにしていなければ良いなあ、と。

What I mean is... Well, I will just put it like...

何が言いたいかというと、まあ、

A little bit of complexity was in my heart there.

ちょっとした複雑な気持ちが浮かんだと言う所に停めておきましょうか。

Or, maybe you can check the history of Vieques.

The Caribbean Trip/ そろそろ旅の話をしよう〜Prelude

OK. "Kokomo" was the only image that I had of Caribbean.

「ココモ」というあの有名な曲以外、私はカリブ海について何も知らなかった。

However, since I was invited by Puerto Rico International Film Festival,

I decided to visit there to meet the pretty mama.

しかし、プエリトリコ国際映画祭に招待されたので折角だから訪ねてみようと決意。

Alright!

Just visiting Puerto Rico is not enough, I decided to visit Cuba, which I have not much information about, but very interested from Buena Vista Social Club.

よし。せっかくプエルトリコまで行くのならキューバに行きたい！

「ブエナビスタソーシャルクラブ」の音楽、映画ともに魅了されていたのでいつか行ってみたい国でもあったのでした。

However, there was a bit confusion here. 

I could not find a way to get to Cuba from Puerto Rico.

Why?

しかしながら、プエルトリコからキューバに直接行く方法が一つもない。

なぜ？

I immediately checked for a book about Cuban History, then read this book.　

And I found out something I did not know anything about.

すぐにキューバの歴史書を探し、なんとか入手。

そして私はまた何も知らなかったことを知った。

Fidel Castro, he organized the Cuban Revolution together with Argentina man, Guevara.

フィデル・カストロという男がアルゼンチン人のチェ・ゲバラとキューバ革命を行った事。

Then found out that, Cuba-US relationship is pretty bad.

Anti-socialism vs Anti-Capitalism.

そしてキューバと米国の関係がとても悪い事を知る。

反社会主義×反資本主義の対立。

Gottago.

I looked into a route to get to Cuba, and finally got the ticket from Puerto Rico→Dominican Republic→Panama→Cuba. Well done.

これは行かなくては。

プエルトリコ→ドミニカ共和国→パナマ→キューバへのフライトをなんとかか確保。
